For the second time, in order to take the impactful Nepali Startups to the international bootcamp — Slush 2017 Global Impact Accelerator — in Finland, YoungInnovations and Slush GIA in partnership with Oulu University of Applied Science(Oulu UAS), Kathmandu University School of Management(KUSOM), King’s College and Ideastudio Nepal organized the Slush Global Impact Accelerator Pitching Competition in Kathmandu, Nepal on August 17, 2017 at the premises of KUSOM. Congratulations to winners of 2017 — Doko Recyclers Pvt. Ltd., Tootle and Muskan Bringing Back Smiles, Pvt, Ltd. — and all the best for the selection process.
The pitching competition is a platform for Nepalese entrepreneurs, with products in the early stage that have proven market potential and strong prospects to reach out to a wider audience, create global impact and have solution that supports the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Last year 2 finalists: Honeyguide Pvt. Ltd. and ICT for Agri. Pvt. Ltd. made it to Helsinki. This year, Nepal is one of the 20 hubs around the world organizing the pitching competition to provide opportunity for impactful startups to participate Slush 2017 Global Impact Accelerator.
After receiving applications, the organizing team had selected 15 finalists by second week of August. The team organized a mentoring session for the finalists at King’s College on August 16, 2017. The team from Oulu UAS and Ashish (CEO of Honeyguide, one of the last year winner and participants of Slush 2016 GIA), met with the co-founders who would present about their product/service the next day. The mentors listen to their mock pitches carefully and provided valuable inputs to make their case strong for the pitching day. In a short period of time, the mentors visited all of the finalists in speed-date manner. In pitching day, one of the team member from Oulu UAS, Mr. Janne Karjalainen, sat on the judges seats to judge the finalists and helped to select the 3 best companies.
